Joyce worked for Student Assistance Services Corporation as the Student Assistance Counselor for Croton High School, Middle School and thereafter at Suny Purchase College where she both developed and supervised the program. She continued her career in prevention as the Founder of the New Canaan Coalition and was the Asset Coordinator for nearly seven years for the Town of New Canaan. Her substance use prevention efforts continued as the Regional Teen Prevention Coordinator for Housatonic Valley Coalition. Joyce returned to Student Assistance Services Corporation where she was the Community Coordinator for the Westchester County Coalition for Alcohol and Drug Free Youth and was the Coordinator of the Youth-to-Youth Program.
Currently Joyce is the Founder and President of the Ram Council Foundation Inc., a non-profit consisting of New Canaan teens/as well as a middle school group-Ram Jr. who commit to substance free living and focus on healthy decision making. Joyce has a clinical private practice, is the Connections Counselor at Darien High School and founder and Advisor to the Blue Wave Council. Ms. Sixsmith also speaks on a variety of topics for schools, faith communities and agencies and businesses.
