Turnbridge Announces NEW Adolescent Residential Treatment Center Coming Soon!
Turnbridge is proud to announce the impending opening of its brand new, state-of-the-art Adolescent Residential Treatment Center. This free-standing 12-bed program, situated on 68 acres in the beautiful rolling hills of Woodbury, Connecticut, is designed for teen boys and girls ages 14-17 who are struggling with mental health, behavioral, or substance use issues.
THE TREATMENT TEAM
The launch of this program culminates years of meticulous staff recruitment. The Turnbridge Adolescent Residential Treatment Center will be led by some of the world’s most recognized behavioral healthcare thought-leaders, clinicians, and researchers, all providing direct care to a small group of 12 clients and families in an intimate setting. Every member of the Turnbridge Adolescent team considers this program to be their life’s work and was selected because they share an unwavering commitment to quality.
Dr. Christopher Cutter, PhD, Executive Director
Dr. Cutter is one of the world’s leading behavioral healthcare researchers and clinicians in the fields of psychotherapy development, behavioral medicine, and addiction medicine. He received his PhD in Counseling Psychology from Northeastern University and his Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from University of Southern California.
He has held teaching or research positions at Yale University, Harvard University, Northeastern University, and the University of Hartford. Dr. Cutter is currently a tenure-tracked faculty member at Yale School of Medicine’s Child Study Center.
Dr. Cutter plans to one day leverage the exceptional outcomes produced at Turnbridge to lobby congress to support legislation that will increase access to long-term dual diagnosis treatment for all populations.
Dr. Hassan Minhas, MD, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, Medical Director
Dr. Minhas completed his medical residency and chief fellowship in Pediatric Psychiatry at the renowned Brown University Program, during which time he worked at Bradley hospital, the first neuropsychiatric hospital for children in the U.S. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor at Yale University Medical School, was previously Medical Director of the Outpatient Autism Center at the Hospital for Special Care, and served as a Consultant to Walden Eating Disorder programs. With advanced training in child and adolescent psychiatry, Dr. Minhas is experienced in treating many types of childhood onset conditions, including ADHD, anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders, substance use disorders, and developmental disabilities.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Minhas has extensively published, presented, and received numerous awards and fellowships. Some of these include the APA Leadership Fellowship, the Brain Conference Travel Award, the Martin B. Keller Award for the outstanding resident at Brown University, and the Haffenreffer Family Resident Award.
Dr. Mark Beitel, PhD, Neuropsychologist
Dr. Beitel is a renowned clinical psychometrician with over 40 peer-reviewed publications. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Psychology Honors Program at the University of Michigan, a Master of Arts degree from the New School for Social Research, and a Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Fordham University. Post-doctoral work took place at Yale University School of Medicine.
Dr. Beitel will be conducting neuropsychological testing with every Turnbridge Adolescent client, which will inform their clinical treatment and educational planning. Dr. Beitel is an Associate Research Scientist at The Child Study Center, Yale School of Medicine.
Jack Britton, LPC, Clinical Director
Jack is a nationally recognized and respected clinician in the treatment world. He was recruited by Turnbridge in 2016, relocating from Texas to join the clinical team in the role of primary therapist to its emerging adult client population. Later that year, he shifted to the role of family therapist, helping the same young adults connect more with their families. In 2017, Jack earned the recognition of Turnbridge Clinician of the Year.
In his role as Clinical Director, Jack and his team of three licensed masters-level therapists will be providing individual, group, and family psychotherapy to the Turnbridge Adolescent Primary Treatment Program’s group of 12 clients.
Deborah Vieira, RN, Director of Nursing
Debbie and her ubiquitous team of Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses provide 24/7 awake support to clients of the Turnbridge Adolescent Residential Treatment Center. The nursing team are responsible for attending to the daily medical needs of Turnbridge Adolescent clients, including initial medical assessment, medication administration, and coordinating medical care related to pre-existing medical conditions or those that emerge during the course of treatment.
Previously, Debbie was the Assistant Director of Nurses at Taft School, an internationally recognized college-preparatory boarding school in Connecticut. Prior to that, she was the 504 coordinator for Forbes School in Torrington, Connecticut.
Stephen Register, Director of Education
A Yale University graduate, Stephen is an accomplished mentor, advisor, and coach with a breadth of classroom and academic advising experience. Stephen brings a deep understanding of the interconnections between mind, body, spirit, and the academic, recreational, and artistic curricula that lead to effective change. Stephen is inspired to help young people improve mental health and learn new skills through movement-based therapies and academics.
Stephen and his team ensure the seamless continuity of high school coursework for Turnbridge Adolescent Primary Treatment clients, as well as support their therapeutic progress through improving physical health and practicing creative expression.
Erin Swett, LCSW, Primary Therapist
Erin Swett is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She earned her MSW from Arizona State University with a specific concentration on Child Welfare. Erin has over 15 years in the field of mental health and substance use treatment. Prior to joining Turnbridge, she primarily treated children and adolescents in her private practice in Salisbury, Connecticut.
Clinically, Erin applies a trauma-informed lens to all her work, and is extensively trained in EMDR and the use of mindfulness practices. Erin is a 200-hour registered yoga teacher and enjoys integrating aspects of yoga philosophy, movement, and breath into the treatment of mental health, trauma, substance use disorders.
Away from work, Erin loves spending time with her two young daughters and enjoys Zumba, cycling, and walking.
Jacqueline Barbaro, LPC, Primary Therapist
Jacqueline Barbaro is a Licensed Professional Counselor. She received a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Psychology from Cambridge College in Boston and a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Anna Maria College.
Jacqueline specializes in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and frequently utilizes mindfulness and relaxation techniques. Her career has included extensive work with at-risk youth and their families, and she has provided therapy in a variety of treatment settings, including residential, outpatient, and in-home.
Jacqueline enjoys an active lifestyle, spending time with her family, and appreciates events associated with the four seasons in New England.
Matthew Fields, LMFT, Primary Therapist
Matt Fields is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Matt earned a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from Southern Connecticut State University. He holds experience working in detox, residential, and outpatient mental health and substance use treatment. As a postmodern systemic therapist, he uses a broad range of diagnostic and treatment tools to meet every person’s individual needs. Matt helps young people better understand themselves within the context of their family of origin and their living environments. He applies Bowenian, Narrative, Cognitive Behavioral, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy to help clients.
In his free time, Matt enjoys researching military history and running.
THE CAMPUS
The Turnbridge Adolescent Residential Treatment Center campus is situated on 68 private acres of pastoral countryside in Woodbury, Connecticut. The main house, a thoughtfully converted manse, is a home-like environment in which clients feel welcome, at peace, and at home during their stay. Every aspect of the campus’s houses and grounds are designed to inspire a sense of belonging and tranquility, and to allow young people to have fun while engaging in exceptionally-personalized treatment. The campus includes a swimming pool, a world-class ropes course, and climbing wall, a game room, hiking, and utility terrain vehicle trails, to keep clients engaged and active.

The Turnbridge Adolescent Residential Treatment Center accepts insurance. We are in-network with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans, and can work with most major insurance companies.
